On Sept. 25, my colleagues and I on the Standing Committee on Health tabled our report on organ donation in Canada. There has been significant improvement over the past ten years in Canada’s organ donor rate but we heard from witnesses that there is more work that needs to be done.
In our report, we outlined four key areas where the government can take a leadership role. This includes:
- supporting the adoption of best practices in organ donation across all jurisdictions;
- investing in national public education and awareness campaigns;
- creating more opportunities for Canadians to register their decisions regarding organ donation; and
- providing sustained funding for research and data collection to ensure that organ transplantation results in improved health outcomes for Canadians.
I’m convinced that these recommendations developed by our committee can save lives. To read our full report, visit: https://bit.ly/2O8DRkg
